Heather Amanda List - BSc (Hons)

This is my gran Florence she was born at the end of the 1800’s when England had a king and a womens place was in kitchen. Two world wars changed all that though, her husband Reginald Walter List fought and surviced both. Including escaping Dunkirk in 1940 and getting his feet wet again on D-day in 1944. You cant tell from this picture but she had one leg shorter than the other after surving polio when she was 6 years old She had nine children including my dad Thomas who spent his war years in the lancashire mines digging coal.

Florence List

This is my mum Christina Miles she was born in March 1944, three months before her dad Stanley Miles, a member of field marshal Montgomery’s desert rats re-joined his tank division to liberate Belgium and the Netherlands. Actually if he had not been wounded in Italy and sent home early my mum a ‘leave baby’ would never have been born. She was a young girl in Germany when the Berlin wall was built and im glad to say she lived long enough to see it come down again. she also saw Queen Elizabeth II coronated and England win the world cup. She married on her birthday in 1962 and had 4 children.

Christina Miles

I would like to say I was born in peace time but my geography lessons included Vietnam, Korea, Palestine, Northern Ireland, the Falkland’s and Iraq. They sent Men to the moon when I was a year old and 12 years later I watched the first space shuttle take off. In 1977 when I was nine Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her silver jubilee, Star Wars was released on the public and Elvis died.

In 1998 I gave birth to my fourth daughter and in 2015 I graduated from University.
